Hi sony, Please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Sony. I am 22 years old. I come from Indonesia. I was graduated from Ma Chung University with bachelor’s degree in computer science. Now I work independently as graphic designer. i like drawing and playing music. Basically I love art. I also like travelling to a new places, try new food, and meet new people. My dream is one day I could travel around the world. ![]()
How did you become a graphic designer?
My journey in design started since I was 4 years old. Drawing has been my favorite hobby. When I was child I loved watching kid’s superhero movies like Kamen Rider Black, Ultraman Taro, etc and I started to draw that characters. I spent a tons of paper everyday drawing my favorite superhero. At that time, my biggest happiness was when my mother bought me a complete set of crayons. I still remembered how I loved drawing day by day. As time goes by, I learned how to draw in various techniques and medias such as color pencil, watercolor and pencil sketching. Starting in kindergarten and all the way through high school, art has been my passion.
My graphic design career began in college. I started to learn by myself how to paint digitally using Adobe Photoshop. It’s really different from painting using pencil or crayon, but i really enjoyed it. I found a new way to express my ideas, fantasy, and soul. It took me so long to master the basic and tools before I got comfortable using this program. I learned to make everything from simply editing photo to creating a complex digital caricature. At third year of my college, I really wanted to have a job related with graphic design but I had no idea how to get there. Until someday I googled about design contest and found the 99designs. My life was just about to begin. I entered that site and began working and working. I realized that I was an amateur with limited design skill. I knew that I would faced many great designers there, but I was sure things would get better with time. After several weeks of continuously submitting designs, I won my first contest! It was like winning a million dollars ![]()
For short, this is the second year I work as graphic design artist. As time goes by I become highly motivated. And through persistent hard work, I won more contests. I also receive clients from many countries that love my artworks.

How do you keep your creative life when you’re working under pressure?
I realized that it’s very hard to work best under pressure, so I take a break. Usually I do something fun, play gadget, look for something cool in ebay or hang out with friends. Then I will be back with fresh mind and continue working. All I want is to give the best for my clients.
What initially inspired you to begin doing work online?
Actually it began when I was looking for a graphic design job in the internet. I found a great chance and place to work online.

According to you, Can every designer work as a freelancer? Is there success for everyone?
Yes I believe there’s enough success for everyone. For all who love design, freelancer is one of many ways to get success. We all can get success in everything we do. I don’t know exactly what the key of success is, but I really like this quote:-
“That’s the key to success, isn’t it? It has to be fun.”
~Monica Seles~
What do you most enjoy about being a graphic designer?
All of it! I really enjoy this job. Imagine you began to love art since you were child, and now it becomes your profession and ever it is your life. That’s why my “tagline” is “I love art. Art loves me”

Apart from designing, you like to do?
Of course music and travelling.
Your expert areas?
Logo, illustration, caricature, stationary. But my speciality in logo design.
Any planning’s for the future?
Like most designers, in the future I want to have my own art & design studio. I want to travel around the world also ![]()

Tools you use?
Mostly Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
what advice would you give to aspiring designers?
well, I will share some points to you all
First you should start to learn everything about design. Learn about typography, color scheme, proportioning, and more. It is a continuous lifelong process, going on from we start designing to the end of our life. Second, build a powerfull portfolio. It’s so important for us having a great portfolio. The first thing that clients see from a designer is his portfolio. And the last is never stop trying. Keep practice and practice. It will takes us into higher and higher and higher level.
